WHO WE ARE

The Lake Naivasha Water Resources Users Association (LANAWRUA) is an entity that was created under section 10(1) of the Water Resources Management Rules, 2007. LANAWRUA is registered with the Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA) as a multi-stakeholder partner for the collaborative management of the water resources within the 2000 MASL contour, including all aquifers that lie therein, as well as Lake Naivasha, Crater Lake, Lake Oloiden and the lower sections of rivers Karati, Malewa and Gilgil. The association is bound by the 2,000 ASL contour circumventing the Lake and it is one of a total of twelve WRUA’s within the Basin

OUR MISSION

The mission of Lake Naivasha Water Resource Users Association is to promote wise use, management and development of the Lake Naivasha water resources, consistent with sustainable development and good environmental practices.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to have wise users of Lake Naivasha water resources by ensuring efficient, beneficial and sustainable use by all. .

OUR OBJECTIVES

 

a) To promote legal water abstraction
b) To promote efficient and beneficial use of the water resources
c) To promote wise use, management and development of the water resources consistent with sustainable development and good environmental practices.
d) To advocate for the allocation and use of water in a way that recognizes the value of water as a social and economic good.
e) To promote soil and water conservation practices
f) To promote the reuse and recycling of waste water
g) To recognize the unique nature of the Lake Naivasha area and associated Ramsar site and to support those mandated to conserve it
h) To collaborate with other WRUAs in the Lake Naivasha Basin for the sustainable management of the water resources in the basin.

i)To promote a situation in which the available water resources are reasonably shared between the environment, the wildlife, the livestock, commercial activities and all the communities who rely on the water resources within the LANAWRUA areas, in a manner that recognizes the following priority ranking of water use, from highest to lowest, namely; – Non Commercial water uses – Commercial water uses – All other water uses
j) To provide an effective forum to discuss, prevent and resolve water use conflicts
k) To promote dialogue between the water users, the Water Resources Management Authority and other relevant authorities in regard to water policy and enforcement of the Water Act in respect to activities related to water resources
l) To encourage the participation of stakeholders and water users in the management of the water resources
m) To build the LANAWRUA into a sustainable organization, based on ethics of good governance, transparency and accountability.
